About

My name is Luke Anthony and this is my personal domain for all my musical forays.

I grew up in the Berkshire area and began playing the guitar at the age of 8.  I began with classical guitar studies under Colin Arenstein at the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust (now Berkshire Maestros).  As a classical guitarist I played in various groups and ensembles including the Berkshire Youth Guitar Orchestra and the Berkshire Youth Guitar Trio, with performances at the National Festival of Music for Youth and the British Festival of Banjoists Mandolinists and Guitarists.

During my teens I also became interested in other guitar styles.  I started playing jazz guitar with the East Berkshire Jazz Orchestra, including performances with Laurie Holloway and at Henley Regatta.  It was at this time when I started to play rock guitar, influenced initially by a love of the blues sparked initially by the music of Eric Clapton.

After leaving school my focus turned more to classical music, and at University in Oxford I became interested in orchestral conducting.  During my time at Oxford I conducted Trinity College Orchestra and Oxford University Wind Orchestra, with occasional recitals on the classical guitar to keep my playing going.

After University I continued my conducting studies with Alan Hazeldine from the Guildhall School of Music.  I continued to conduct various groups and ensembles including the Symphonic Wind Orchestra of North London and the Windsor Sinfonia, and participated on a conducting masterclass with the Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra and Maestro Kirk Trevor.

Today, my focus is on the guitar.  I enjoy playing a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, folk and rock.  You can find a list of my upcoming gigs as well as information on guitar tuition on the other pages of this website.
